I would highly recommend Nadia. I have used a number of different aesthetic clinics and I have to be very careful as I can be quite reactive and have ended up with had droopy lids, puffy eyes and a heavy head feeling before. Not with Nadia, she is very thorough and knowledgeable and knows the face anatomy well, which has resulted in the best results I have ever had.

I sought out Dr Raquel with the aim of restoring some confidence in my appearance, and some life to my increasingly lacklustre menopausal skin, my jaw and jowl area in particular worried me when I caught my reflection.

I felt instantly welcome in the serene, beautiful surroundings of Dr Raquel’s clinic. I was warmly greeted by Natalie, and felt reassured by Dr Raquel’s warm, approachable manner, knowledge and professionalism.

Dr Raquel thoroughly explained not only the treatments that would address my immediate concerns such as polynucleotides, skin boosters and dermal fillers, but also how I could improve the health of my skin myself, through my home skin care regimen, diet and supplements.

We proceeded with a treatment plan to improve my skin texture and laxity, and I felt completely comfortable and relaxed in Dr Raquel’s skilled hands, and actively looked forward to my next visits, and the resulting glow!

Having finished my plan several months on, I am delighted with the visible improvements in my skin tone and texture and the definition of my lower face, and take a renewed pleasure in my skincare routine.

I whole heartedly recommend Dr Raquel and her holistic, personalised approach.

I saw Dr Paulina Charlesworth to discuss a weight loss regime. I had recently had a total hip replacement and although I wasn’t in the obese category, ongoing problems with my knees as well as my other hip, suggested that losing some weight would be a good idea. Almost immediately on arrival at her surgery, Dr Paulina asked me whether I had rheumatoid arthritis – I realised she was looking intently at my hands. I told her that I did not have rheumatoid arthritis as I had tested negatively for it by my GP just a week or so earlier. Dr Paulina remained very concerned about the appearance of my hands, even bringing a book over to explain the various signs of severe arthritis that she could see. During our conversation, I told her about my hip replacement and all my other joint problems – I could see she was concerned for my health. Quite honestly, I was surprised at her genuine warmth and concern for my overall health when I had simply come for weight loss advice. Dr Paulina’s concern for my health resulted in her offering to write a letter for me, free of charge, so that I could make an appointment with a Consultant Rheumatologist and have my hands and joints checked properly.

I had that appointment with the Rheumatologist last week, who confirmed that I had not Rheumatoid, but severe Osteoarthritis, and more surprisingly that I have a Hypermobility Syndrome! Finding out that I have a Hypermobility Syndrome explains SO MUCH about all the problems I have had over the years as my loose ligaments have caused early onset Osteoarthritis. I can’t believe that it took 62 years to find out what was at the cause of so much pain throughout my life, including skin problems as the hypermobility affects collagen and the skin too.

A big THANK YOU to Dr Paulina for taking the time to help me discover what was wrong with me! Really, her care for my overall health was astonishing.

Also…I’ve lost 10lbs which is a very good thing too!

FAQs

The most effective way to get rid of marionette lines is with dermal filler injections, which restore lost volume and support to the lower face, smoothing the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down toward the chin. This treatment addresses the primary cause of marionette lines, which is volume loss and tissue descent in the lower face. Dermal filler works by replacing lost volume in the area where marionette lines form; lifting and supporting descended tissue; smoothing the crease and reducing shadow; and restoring more youthful lower face contours. Treatment typically involves hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm, Restylane or Teosyal; injection along and beneath the marionette lines; often combined with treatment of surrounding areas for comprehensive rejuvenation; and results visible immediately with full effects after swelling settles. For comprehensive marionette line correction, practitioners often recommend a combined approach including treating the marionette lines directly with filler; addressing the chin for lower face support; restoring cheek volume to lift the midface; and potentially using anti-wrinkle injections to relax the depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscle that pulls the mouth corners down. Other treatments that may help include skin tightening treatments like radiofrequency or ultrasound for mild laxity; collagen-stimulating treatments like Sculptra for gradual improvement; and quality skincare including retinoids and peptides for skin support. However, for established marionette lines, dermal filler remains the most effective non-surgical solution, providing immediate, visible improvement that can last 9 to 18 months depending on the filler used.

In East Malling, the price of Marionette Line Filler typically ranges from around £180 to £300, but costs vary between clinics. Local pricing reflects factors such as how many millilitres or syringes are required, the brand or type of filler, the practitioner’s experience, and the personalised treatment plan and desired result. Marionette lines are the vertical creases or folds that run from the corners of the mouth downward toward the chin, creating a sad, downturned appearance to the lower face. The name comes from marionette puppets, which have similar lines carved into their faces to allow the jaw to move. Anatomically, marionette lines form in the area between the corner of the mouth (oral commissure) and the chin; they follow the natural junction between different facial compartments; and they become more prominent as facial volume decreases and tissues descend with age. Marionette lines develop due to several factors including volume loss, as fat pads in the midface and lower face diminish with age, removing support; tissue descent, where gravity causes facial tissues to sag downward; collagen and elastin loss, reducing skin firmness and elasticity; bone resorption, as the jawbone and chin lose volume with age; muscle activity, where the depressor anguli oris muscle repeatedly pulls the mouth corners down; and genetics, as some people are more prone to developing these lines. The appearance of marionette lines can make the face look sad or stern even when relaxed; aged or tired; like the mouth corners are turned down; and older than you feel. Marionette lines typically become noticeable in the late 30s to 40s and progressively deepen over time. They are often accompanied by other signs of lower face ageing including jowling, loss of jawline definition and thinning lips. The lines can significantly impact facial expression, making people appear unhappy or disapproving when their face is at rest.

Marionette lines can be effectively treated and significantly reduced, though complete permanent removal requires understanding the available options and realistic expectations. Dermal filler is the most effective non-surgical treatment for removing or significantly reducing marionette lines. Dermal filler treatment involves injecting hyaluronic acid filler directly into and around the marionette lines; restoring volume loss that contributes to line formation; lifting descended tissue to reduce the crease depth; and providing immediate, visible improvement. The procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes, causes minimal discomfort with numbing, and results last 9 to 18 months. For optimal marionette line removal, comprehensive treatment often includes direct filling of the marionette lines themselves; chin augmentation for lower face support and projection; cheek enhancement to lift the midface and reduce downward descent; jawline contouring for overall lower face definition; and possibly anti-wrinkle injections to the DAO muscle to prevent downward pull. Additional treatments that help remove marionette lines include collagen stimulators like Sculptra or Radiesse for gradual volume restoration; skin tightening treatments like radiofrequency, ultrasound or laser for mild to moderate laxity; thread lifts for lifting and collagen stimulation; and in severe cases, surgical facelift for permanent repositioning of descended tissues. To maintain results after removal, follow up treatments are needed as fillers gradually metabolise; protect skin from sun damage; use quality skincare supporting collagen; maintain healthy lifestyle; and consider preventative treatments before lines fully return. Complete permanent removal is only achievable through surgery, but non-surgical treatments can provide dramatic, long-lasting improvement that most people find very satisfactory.

Preventing marionette lines involves addressing the factors that cause them before they become established, combining protective measures, supportive treatments and healthy lifestyle choices. Sun protection is essential for prevention since UV damage is a primary cause of collagen and elastin breakdown; daily SPF 50+ sunscreen on the lower face is crucial; protective clothing and seeking shade reduce cumulative damage; and preventing sun damage preserves skin structure that resists line formation. Skincare for prevention should include retinoids, which stimulate collagen production and maintain skin thickness; antioxidants like vitamin C to protect against environmental damage; peptides supporting skin structure and firmness; and hydrating ingredients maintaining skin plumpness. Lifestyle factors that help prevent marionette lines include not smoking, as smoking dramatically accelerates facial ageing and volume loss; maintaining stable weight, as repeated weight fluctuations affect facial fat; staying hydrated for skin health; eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and protein; getting adequate sleep for skin repair; and managing stress, which affects skin ageing. Preventative treatments to consider include early intervention with small amounts of filler before lines are established; skin boosters maintaining hydration and quality; collagen-stimulating treatments supporting skin structure; and regular professional skincare treatments. Muscle management through anti-wrinkle injections to the DAO muscle can prevent the repeated downward pull that contributes to line formation; early treatment relaxes the muscle before deep creases form; and this is particularly helpful if you notice your mouth corners naturally turn down. Starting preventative measures in your 30s, before significant lines develop, is more effective than waiting until deep creases have formed. However, genetics play a role, and some people will develop marionette lines despite excellent prevention efforts.

Reducing marionette lines effectively requires addressing both the lines themselves and the underlying causes of their formation. Dermal filler is the most effective treatment for reducing marionette lines by directly filling and supporting the creased area; restoring lost volume that allows lines to form; lifting descended tissue to reduce line depth; and providing significant, immediate improvement. Treatment typically uses 0.5ml to 2ml of hyaluronic acid filler depending on severity; results are visible immediately and last 9 to 18 months; and the procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes with minimal downtime. Comprehensive reduction strategies include addressing surrounding areas, where treating the chin provides support and improves lower face proportions; cheek enhancement lifts the midface, reducing downward pull; and jawline treatment creates overall lower face definition. Anti-wrinkle injections to the DAO muscle reduce the downward pull contributing to line formation; work well in combination with filler; and help maintain results longer. Skin tightening treatments for mild lines include radiofrequency treatments to stimulate collagen and tighten skin; ultrasound treatments for lifting and tightening; and laser treatments for skin quality improvement. Collagen stimulators like Sculptra provide gradual, natural-looking volume restoration; work over several months as collagen builds; and may be preferred for those wanting subtle, progressive improvement. Skincare that helps reduce marionette lines includes retinoids to stimulate collagen and improve skin thickness; peptides supporting skin structure; and hydrating ingredients maintaining skin plumpness. For best results reducing marionette lines, most practitioners recommend a combination approach tailored to your specific anatomy, line severity and desired outcome, often combining filler with supporting treatments for comprehensive improvement.

The amount of filler needed for marionette lines typically ranges from 0.5ml to 2ml total, though the exact amount depends on the severity of your lines, your facial anatomy and desired outcome. Individual factors determine the precise volume required. For mild marionette lines with early, shallow creases, typically 0.5ml to 1ml total is needed, split between both sides; this provides subtle softening and prevents deepening; and one syringe often suffices. For moderate marionette lines with established, visible creases, typically 1ml to 1.5ml total is needed; more significant filling and support is required; and some people benefit from treating surrounding areas too. For severe marionette lines with deep, pronounced folds, typically 1.5ml to 2ml or more may be needed; comprehensive treatment including surrounding areas is often recommended; and multiple syringes may be required for optimal results. Additional filler considerations include that treating marionette lines alone may not provide optimal results; comprehensive lower face rejuvenation often requires chin filler (0.5ml to 1ml) for support and projection; cheek filler (1ml to 2ml) to lift the midface; jawline filler (1ml to 2ml) for definition; and the total treatment may use 3ml to 6ml across multiple areas for full lower face rejuvenation. A conservative approach is often recommended, starting with smaller amounts initially; assessing results after 2 weeks when swelling settles; adding more if needed at a follow-up appointment; and building gradually for natural-looking results. Cost implications show that marionette line filler typically costs £200 to £400 per ml; comprehensive lower face treatment may cost £600 to £1,500+ depending on areas treated; and results typically last 9 to 18 months before maintenance is needed. Your practitioner will assess your specific needs during consultation and recommend an appropriate treatment plan based on your anatomy, concerns and goals.

Botox alone cannot fix marionette lines because the lines are primarily caused by volume loss and tissue descent rather than muscle movement. However, Botox can play a supportive role in marionette line treatment when used strategically as part of a comprehensive approach. Botox can help marionette lines by treating the depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscle, which pulls the mouth corners downward; relaxing this muscle allows the mouth corners to lift slightly; this reduces the downward pull that contributes to line formation; and creates a more pleasant resting expression. The DAO treatment involves small injections (typically 2 to 4 units per side) into the muscle near the jawline; results appear within 1 to 2 weeks; effects last 3 to 4 months; and this is often called a 'mouth corner lift' or treatment for downturned smile. Why Botox alone is insufficient is because marionette lines are primarily caused by volume loss, which Botox cannot address; descended tissue and skin laxity require filling or lifting; the creases themselves need volume replacement to smooth; and structural support from filler is necessary for significant improvement. The optimal approach combines dermal filler to directly address the marionette lines, restore volume and provide support; Botox to the DAO muscle to reduce downward pull and maintain results; and potentially additional filler to chin, cheeks or jawline for comprehensive lower face rejuvenation. Botox is particularly helpful for marionette lines when the mouth corners turn down noticeably during expressions; there is strong DAO muscle activity; you want to extend the longevity of filler results; and as part of preventative treatment before lines deepen. For anyone hoping Botox alone will fix marionette lines, the realistic expectation is that it provides modest improvement by lifting mouth corners slightly, but filler is necessary for significant correction of the lines themselves.

Yes, dermal fillers work very effectively for marionette lines and are considered the gold standard non-surgical treatment for this concern. Fillers address the primary cause of marionette lines, which is volume loss, and provide immediate, visible improvement that most patients find highly satisfying. How fillers work for marionette lines involves restoring lost volume in the area where lines form; filling and supporting the crease to reduce depth and shadow; lifting descended tissue that contributes to line formation; and providing structural support to the lower face. The effectiveness of fillers for marionette lines is supported by high patient satisfaction rates; immediate, visible results; long-lasting improvement typically 9 to 18 months; and ability to achieve natural-looking correction. Filler treatment provides best results when using appropriate products, as thicker, more supportive fillers work well for deeper lines while softer fillers suit superficial lines; treating comprehensively by addressing surrounding areas like chin and cheeks for optimal results; using proper technique with experienced practitioners understanding lower face anatomy; and taking a conservative approach, building gradually for natural results. Types of fillers that work well for marionette lines include Juvederm Volift or Voluma for moderate to deep lines; Restylane Lyft or Defyne for support and flexibility; Teosyal RHA for natural movement; and choice depends on line depth, skin type and practitioner preference. Results patients can expect include significant reduction in line visibility; softer, smoother lower face appearance; more youthful facial contours; and lifted, less sad resting expression. Limitations to understand are that fillers provide temporary results requiring maintenance; very deep lines may not completely disappear but will significantly improve; optimal results often require treating multiple areas; and severe laxity may need additional treatments or surgery. For most people with marionette lines, dermal filler provides excellent, reliable results that meaningfully improve lower face appearance and create a more youthful, pleasant expression.

Before marionette line filler treatment, people typically have visible vertical lines running from the mouth corners toward the chin; a sad, stern or disapproving resting expression; downturned appearance to the mouth corners; shadowing and creasing in the lower face; aged appearance disproportionate to how they feel; and self-consciousness about looking unhappy or tired when their face is relaxed. These lines often make people appear older, sadder or more stern than they actually are, affecting confidence in social and professional situations. After marionette line filler treatment, assessed once initial swelling has settled (typically 1 to 2 weeks after treatment), most people experience significant, visible improvement. Common results include dramatically reduced marionette line visibility; smoother, more youthful lower face contours; lifted, more pleasant resting expression; reduced shadowing and creasing; more harmonious facial proportions; and restored confidence about facial appearance. If comprehensive treatment including chin, cheeks or jawline is performed, additional results include improved lower face definition and support; lifted midface reducing downward tissue descent; better overall facial balance and proportions; and more complete rejuvenation of the lower face. The degree of improvement depends on the severity of lines before treatment; the amount and type of filler used; whether surrounding areas are treated; individual anatomy and skin quality; and the skill and technique of the practitioner. During and after treatment, the timeline shows that immediately after there is visible improvement with some swelling; days 1 to 3 bring swelling that may temporarily exaggerate results; days 7 to 14 see swelling settling and true results visible; and weeks 2 to 4 demonstrate optimal results with filler fully integrated. Results typically last 9 to 18 months depending on the filler used, metabolism and lifestyle factors, after which maintenance treatment is needed to sustain improvement. Before and after expectations should be realistic: filler provides significant reduction and softening rather than complete elimination of deep lines; natural-looking improvement is the goal rather than overfilled appearance; results are temporary, requiring ongoing maintenance; and comprehensive treatment of surrounding areas often provides better overall results. Most people are very satisfied with marionette line filler results, finding that treatment creates meaningful improvement in their lower face appearance, making them look more rested, pleasant and youthful. The correction often has a significant positive impact on how others perceive their expression and approachability.
