About

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a skin treatment that uses acids to exfoliate the outer layers of dead or damaged skin. This encourages cell turnover, clears congestion, and helps fade pigmentation. Peels range from mild to medium-depth and can be tailored to your skin type and concerns.

Common treatment goals:

  • Dull or uneven skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation or melasma
  • Acne and congestion
  • Fine lines
  • Sun damage
Process

What to Expect

The practitioner applies a chemical solution (such as glycolic, lactic, salicylic, or TCA) to clean skin. You may feel tingling or heat as it activates. The peel is either neutralised and removed, or left to self-neutralise depending on the formula. Some peels result in light flaking, while stronger ones may cause visible shedding.

Yes. When performed by a trained professional, chemical peels are safe and effective. Stronger peels require more downtime but are still non-invasive.

It depends on the type of peel. Light peels may cause no visible peeling, while medium peels can result in 3–5 days of flaking.

Most people benefit from a course of 3–6 peels spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Maintenance peels can be done every few months.

In most cases, yes — but not at the same appointment. Always follow your practitioner’s guidance on timing with other treatments like microneedling or LED therapy.

Light peels target the top layer of skin with little to no downtime. Medium peels reach deeper and often involve visible shedding, but offer more dramatic results.
